Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, commonly known as Michelangelo, was an Italian Renaissance artist renowned for his contributions to painting, sculpture, architecture, and poetry. Michelangelo showed artistic promise from a young age. At 13, he apprenticed with the prominent painter Domenico Ghirlandaio, learning the techniques of fresco painting and draftsmanship.
